A motorist is dead after a two-vehicle crash in the Far North 4 April 2021 The crash between a car and a motorcycle happened on Far North Road in Te Kao, north west of Kaitaia, just before midday. An off-duty St John officer was first at the scene, followed by firefighters from Kaitaia and Police Serious Crash Unit investigators. Two others have suffered moderate injuries and are being attended to at the scene. The Holiday road toll now sits at seven.

That s compared with the conviction rate for other charges, which sits at 71 per cent. Rape Prevention Education s Executive Director says juries have no training about laws of consent. Debbi Tohill says they could be easily influenced by rape culture, which pushes blame on the victim. She says defense lawyers can be problematic - and even judges need more training for sexual violence cases.
